    As a rigid, hydrophobic, chiral tricyclic olefin, (5S)-4,10,11,11-tetramethyltricyclo[5.3.1.0~1,5~]undec-9-ene (CAS 560-32-7) is used mainly in R&D as a model substrate and synthetic intermediate for selective transformations (hydrogenation, epoxidation, oxidation, hydroformylation, halogenation) to access epoxide, alcohol and carbonyl derivatives; as an analytical reference for method development (retention index and GC–MS calibration standards, studies of enantioseparation on chiral stationary phases); as a rigid hydrophobic scaffold for designing derivatives for fragrances, medicinal chemistry, and agrochemical screening; after functionalization, as a monomer, linker, or bulky side-chain additive to raise Tg, chemical resistance, and water repellency of polymers, coatings, and UV-cured systems; as a benchmark substrate to probe activity and selectivity of homogeneous/heterogeneous catalysts for additions across an internal double bond on a congested framework; and, at an exploratory stage, as a potential lubricant or fuel additive to improve lubricity, oxidative stability, and volatility behavior.
