  • Applications

4-Carene, (1S,3R,6R)-(-)- (CAS 29050-33-7) is a bicyclic monoterpene with a pine–citrus odor used in fragrances and cosmetics (perfumes, candles, cleaners, deodorizers) to impart fresh resinous notes; in foods and beverages as a nature-derived flavor where permitted; as a bio-based solvent and component of terpene solvent systems for coatings, industrial cleaning, and inks; as a synthetic intermediate to epoxides, diols, halogenated/nitrated derivatives and other bicyclic scaffolds employed as asymmetric building blocks, chiral ligands/auxiliaries, and pharma/agro precursors; in research on asymmetric catalysis, bio-based polymers, and terpene-derived materials; and it is also explored as a skin permeation enhancer in topical formulations, noting potential skin irritation/sensitization at higher levels.
