Applications
2-Tetradecenal (CAS 51534-36-2) is a long-chain unsaturated aldehyde used mainly as a synthesis intermediate and analytical reference in flavor and fragrance chemistry and general organic synthesis; in perfumery it contributes fatty, waxy, green, and slightly citrus notes to fine fragrances, scented cleaners, deodorizing products, and food flavors at trace levels; in crop protection and chemical ecology it occurs as a semiochemical component of insect pheromone blends and can be applied in population-monitoring traps and studies of chemical communication; in laboratories its aldehyde group enables formation of imines or oximes for derivatization, light bioconjugation and fixation, use as a GC-MS or LC-MS standard, and as a feedstock for chain extension, epoxidation, reduction, or construction of functional polymers; it is also useful for studying oxidative stress and protein reactions with α,β-unsaturated alkenals, and should be handled under appropriate chemical safety and regulatory controls to avoid inhalation, ingestion, or skin exposure.
