  • Applications

Methyl 2-pyrrolyl ketone (CAS 1072-83-9) is an aromatic heterocycle with a distinctive roasted-caramel scent that is used as a flavour additive to recreate toasted bread, roasted meat and coffee notes, and as a versatile precursor in the synthesis of pyrrole-based pharmaceuticals (anti-inflammatory, antifungal, neuroactive), an intermediate for agrochemicals, dyes and plant growth regulators, a ligand or initiator in transition-metal-catalysed coupling and photopolymerisation processes, as well as a spectroscopic probe, isotopic label and model compound for redox-mechanism studies, making it valuable to the flavour, pharmaceutical, agrochemical industries and academic research.
