    o-Cymene (CAS 527-84-4, còn gọi 2-isopropyltoluene/1-methyl-2-isopropylbenzene) chủ yếu được ứng dụng như một dung môi/pha loãng thơm có điểm sôi cao trong sơn phủ, mực in, keo dán, chất bịt kín và công thức thuốc bảo vệ thực vật, giúp hòa tan nhựa hiệu quả, điều chỉnh độ nhớt và hồ sơ bay hơi, đồng thời có thể thay thế toluene/xylene để cải thiện mùi và thời gian mở; trong tổng hợp hữu cơ, nó là nguyên liệu trung gian để oxy hóa tạo các dẫn xuất axit benzoic/benzaldehyde tương ứng, hoặc để nitro hóa, sulfo hóa, halogen hóa nhằm tạo các khối xây dựng cho thuốc nhuộm, chất ổn định UV, hóa chất nông nghiệp và tiền chất dược; trong nghiên cứu, o-cymene thường được dùng làm phân tử thăm dò cho xúc tác dị thể (Friedel–Crafts, đồng phân hóa, khử ankyl, oxy hóa chọn lọc) và cho các nghiên cứu động học/oxy hóa gốc tự do; trong công nghiệp hương liệu-vật liệu, nó có thể hiện diện như thành phần mùi terpen thơm ở mức thấp hoặc làm dung môi quy trình khi chiết tách terpene, cũng như làm môi trường không phân cực để tổng hợp hạt nano, phân tán phụ gia, và làm chất mang thơm trong chất phân tán asphaltene và phụ gia gia công kim loại.
