    Axít nonanoic (còn gọi là axít pelargonic, CAS 112-05-0) là một acid béo mạch thẳng C9 được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong nông nghiệp, công nghiệp và ngành hương liệu: trong bảo vệ thực vật, nó được sử dụng trực tiếp như thuốc trừ cỏ tiếp xúc và là tiền chất để tổng hợp các este nonanoat có khả năng diệt cỏ sinh học thân thiện với môi trường; trong công nghiệp chất bôi trơn, các este nonanoic với polyol hoặc rượu dài mạch mang lại độ nhớt thấp, điểm đông đặc thấp và độ bền oxy hóa cao cho dầu máy bay, dầu nén khí và dầu hộp số; trong sản xuất nhựa, muối nonanoat làm chất ổn định và chất hóa dẻo cho PVC cũng như cải thiện tính chống tĩnh điện của polyme dẫn điện; trong sơn phủ và mực in, axít này hoạt động như tác nhân phân tán và điều chỉnh độ chảy; trong lĩnh vực hương liệu – mỹ phẩm, nó là nguyên liệu tạo mùi béo táo, sáp ong, hoa hồng nhẹ, được ester hoá thành nonyl acetate, ethyl nonanoate… góp phần tạo hương trái cây, rượu vang, kem dưỡng da, đồng thời phục vụ tổng hợp hoạt chất dược, chất ức chế ăn mòn kim loại, chất trung gian hữu cơ và tác nhân làm khô bê tông.
