    Eicosane (n-eicosane, C20H42, CAS 112-95-8) là ankan mạch thẳng dạng sáp có điểm nóng chảy gần 37 °C, được ứng dụng rộng rãi làm vật liệu chuyển pha (PCM) để tích trữ nhiệt và điều hòa nhiệt độ trong vật liệu xây dựng, tấm tích năng và bê tông, sơn/thạch cao vi nang, dệt may thông minh và áo giữ nhiệt, bao bì chuỗi lạnh cho dược phẩm, đệm nhiệt cho cảm biến và thiết bị điện tử, cũng như trong thu hồi nhiệt mặt trời và hệ HVAC; ngoài ra còn là thành phần của paraffin và nến, lớp phủ/bôi trơn kỵ nước tạo hàng rào ẩm và hỗ trợ chống ăn mòn nhẹ cho kim loại, giấy và gỗ, chất điều chỉnh độ nhớt và làm mềm trong một số công thức mỹ phẩm/chăm sóc cá nhân, chất chuẩn n-ankan cho sắc ký khí và chỉ số lưu giữ Kovats, vật liệu hiệu chuẩn/đối chứng cho DSC và TGA khi nghiên cứu chuyển pha, nền mô hình cho nghiên cứu vi nang, thấm ướt, kết tinh và động học cháy của hydrocarbon mạch dài, đồng thời hữu ích trong giảng dạy về nhiệt ẩn và chu trình nhiệt.
