    Ocimene (CAS 13877-91-3) là một monoterpen mạch hở có mùi hương dịu ngọt, hoa cỏ và hơi xanh, được tìm thấy tự nhiên trong hoa lài, oải hương, bạc hà, kinh giới…; nhờ khả năng bay hơi cao và hương thơm dễ chịu, nó được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong ngành nước hoa cao cấp, chất khử mùi gia dụng, nến thơm và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân để tạo ấn tượng tươi mát, tự nhiên; trong công nghiệp thực phẩm, ocimene được dùng làm phụ gia tạo hương trái cây nhiệt đới cho kẹo, đồ uống, kẹo cao su; các nghiên cứu dược liệu cho thấy hợp chất này có tiềm năng chống oxy hoá, kháng viêm, kháng nấm và côn trùng, nên được khai thác trong chế phẩm bảo vệ thực vật sinh học, thuốc xua muỗi, dung dịch bảo quản nông sản; đồng thời, với vai trò là chất bán hoá học của thực vật, ocimene còn được sử dụng như chất chỉ thị sinh học trong nghiên cứu tương tác cây–côn trùng và lợi dụng để thiết kế bẫy mồi sinh thái thân thiện môi trường.
