    3-Pinanone (CAS 15358-88-0) là một xeton monoterpen có mùi camphor/nhựa thông đặc trưng, được dùng làm thành phần hương liệu để tạo nốt thông, the mát trong nước hoa, chất khử mùi, chất tẩy rửa gia dụng/công nghiệp, sản phẩm chăm sóc không khí và nến; đồng thời đóng vai trò nguyên liệu trung gian linh hoạt trên khung pinan trong tổng hợp hữu cơ để tạo dẫn xuất terpen (ví dụ khử chọn lọc tạo pinanol, tạo oxime/hydrazone, oxy hóa kiểu Baeyer–Villiger cho lacton), chất điều biến hương và các trung gian hướng tới dược phẩm, nông dược; thường được khai thác như khối xây dựng bất đối xứng hoặc tiền chất cho chất bổ trợ/phối thể nguồn gốc pinan trong xúc tác chọn lọc lập thể, cũng như làm cơ chất mô hình trong R&D nhằm tối ưu phản ứng khử xeton, hydro hóa, oxy hóa chọn lọc và sàng lọc bi-xúc tác (KRED) từ quy mô phòng thí nghiệm đến pilot; trong cảm quan và phân tích, nó được dùng như chất chuẩn mùi và để tinh chỉnh hồ sơ mùi công thức; ngoài ra, tính bay hơi và khả năng tương thích dung môi khiến 3-pinanone hữu ích như đồng dung môi thơm, chất cải biến độ hòa tan và tác nhân mang hương trong một số hệ sản phẩm tiêu dùng.
