    Là một sesquiterpene alcohol bicyclic có độ lập thể xác định, (1aR,4R,4aS,7R,7aS,7bS)-1,1,4,7-tetramethyl-2,3,4a,5,6,7,7a,7b-octahydro-1aH-cyclopropa[e]azulen-4-ol (CAS 577-27-5) được tìm thấy ở hàm lượng vết trong một số tinh dầu và được ứng dụng chủ yếu trong hương liệu, phân tích và nghiên cứu. Trong công nghiệp mùi hương, nó mang sắc thái gỗ–ấm–balsamic hơi thảo mộc, hoạt động như chất cố hương và cải thiện độ lưu hương trong nước hoa mịn, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân, nến và chất tẩy rửa thơm; đôi khi được dùng ở mức rất thấp để tinh chỉnh hương vị thực phẩm có tông gỗ–gia vị. Trong phân tích, hợp chất là chuẩn đối chiếu/đánh dấu trong GC–MS và GC×GC khi lập hồ sơ tinh dầu, hỗ trợ kiểm soát chất lượng và phát hiện pha trộn/giả mạo, cũng như nghiên cứu hóa phân loại. Trong nghiên cứu, khung sesquiterpene cứng và tính đối quang khiến nó hữu ích làm scaffold cho tổng hợp bất đối xứng, tiền chất bán tổng hợp, và mô hình cho khảo sát hoạt tính sinh học (kháng khuẩn, côn trùng, chống oxy hóa) ở mức độ tiền lâm sàng; về công nghệ, nó được đánh giá trong các hệ vi bao/bao hàm để kiểm soát giải phóng mùi. Ứng dụng thực tế cần thẩm định độ ổn định, tương thích công thức và an toàn theo quy định hiện hành.
