Verdox, also known as Green Acetate, OTBCHA or ortho-tert-butyl cyclohexyl acetate, is a synthetic acetate ester in the fruity–green family that delivers a crisp green-apple effect on a soft woody background. With CAS# 88-41-5, it typically appears as a colourless to pale straw liquid and is widely used as a modern fruity–green–woody note in fine fragrances and functional perfumery.
On the nose, Verdox opens with a vivid impression of crunchy green apple: fresh, juicy and slightly tart, evoking a clean, airy, “green” freshness. This fruity top is wrapped in a dry, subtle woody nuance and a hint of herbal–tea greenness, with soft citrus facets and a cool, almost minty brightness. In the background there is a faint powdery, violet/ionone-like tone and a gentle woody–amber softness, which allows Verdox to live not only in the top notes but also to extend into the heart of the fragrance.
In formulation, Verdox is a highly versatile ingredient for fruity–green themes such as green apple, garden fruits, green tea accords, modern clean woods and any composition that needs a fresh green lift without sharpness. Thanks to its dual fruity–woody–green character, it works very well as a “bridge” between bright, sparkling top notes (fruits, citrus, tea) and deeper woody or amber bases, smoothing the transition between layers and enhancing diffusion in fine fragrance, body mists, shower gels, shampoos, laundry care and air care products.
From a technical standpoint, Verdox offers good substantivity for a fruity–green note, with a noticeable life on blotter over several hours, making it suitable for compositions that require a long-lasting green-apple effect rather than a fleeting top. It is readily soluble in alcohol, DPG, IPM and most oil bases, and shows good stability in typical fragrance and household product bases. With a flash point around 90 °C, it fits many perfumery applications where safety and handling parameters for fragrance ingredients must be observed.
Verdox / Green Acetate does not occur in nature; it is a fully synthetic molecule engineered to deliver a very contemporary fruity–green–woody signature: clean, bright, and characterful without becoming candy-sweet. Used at appropriate levels in a concentrate, it boosts impact and diffusion and helps to create recognisable, modern signatures built around green apple, tea, clean wood or “fresh urban” concepts in both fine and functional fragrances.
