In the world of perfumery materials, innovation constantly seeks more refined ways to recreate the beauty of nature. Undecavertol is a synthetic molecule that exemplifies that journey. It is a representative of the modern “green” generation of ingredients. Introduced toward the end of the 20th century, it was developed not only to deliver a highly stable, natural-looking green-leaf and floral effect, but also as an elegant alternative to traditional violet-leaf odorants, which have been limited due to their potential to cause irritation.

Behind its appearance as a mobile, colorless liquid, this material opens a fresh, dewy olfactive world: the crystal-clear greenness of violet leaves and cucumber, blended with the delicacy of lily-of-the-valley and accented by a gentle fruity sweetness reminiscent of pear or apple. Thanks to this distinctive profile, Undecavertol has become an indispensable tool for creating fresh, moist, green facets in fine fragrance and personal-care products-bringing the feeling of a garden after rain into modern compositions.

Description

Undecavertol is a lush, elegant green brushstroke that highlights the heart of a fragrance “symphony.” Belonging to both the Green and Floral worlds, it plays a dual role: a graceful heart note and a powerful note-modifier.

Its scent is vivid and crisp yet remarkably smooth, conjuring images of tender violet leaves, juicy cucumber slices, and the crunchy peel of pear. A pronounced “watery/juicy” aspect is its signature. Its strength lies in good intensity and diffusion, capable of lifting freshness across an entire structure, with moderate longevity-typically lasting 24 to 48 hours on a blotter.

In formulas, it is a key soul of violet-leaf and lily-of-the-valley accords. It also serves as a skilled connector, building a seamless bridge between chlorophyll-like green top notes and floral heart notes. Notably, it can soften the harshness of other synthetic notes, imparting a more natural, dewy feel. Undecavertol is often paired with Neobutenone or Galbanum to deepen the green effect, or combined with white-floral materials to create the impression of freshly picked flowers. Technically, it can be used neat or diluted for easier control during creation.

Applications

Undecavertol’s freshness and stability allow it to appear in a wide range of products-from Floral, Green, and Fruity fine fragrances to personal-care items such as shampoo, shower gel, and body lotion. It is especially effective at masking the base odor of soap and detergents, providing a clean impression; and in scented candles, it helps create an airy, refreshing atmosphere.

Its use follows standard safety practices, with typical levels in fragrance concentrates ranging from 0.2% to 2%, and currently without particularly strict limitations. From a safety standpoint, it carries no special warnings and simply needs to be stored in tightly closed packaging, away from light and heat, to preserve olfactive purity. Undecavertol is an important component in many modern fragrances that require a smooth violet-leaf and lily-of-the-valley effect, including notable examples within certain Dior collections and creations by Estée Lauder.

Undecavertol delivers an exceptionally strong and versatile violet-leaf green effect. Unlike traditional green aldehydes, it possesses a striking smoothness with cucumber and fruity nuances. It is not merely a green note, but a powerful modifier that brightens and refreshes floral accords-especially lily-of-the-valley and rose.
