L-Menthol, also known as (-)-Menthol or Levomenthol, is the naturally predominant isomer of menthol and belongs to the monoterpene alcohol family. It has the molecular formula C₁₀H₂₀O and typically appears as white crystalline solids.

In terms of odor profile, L-Menthol has a distinctive strong minty, fresh, cooling, slightly camphoraceous, and herbal character. Beyond its aromatic properties, it is particularly valued for producing a pronounced cooling sensation on the skin and mucous membranes through activation of the TRPM8 cold receptor.

In fragrance creation, L-Menthol is widely used in mint, peppermint, herbal, fresh, cooling, and medicinal accords. At low concentrations, it can add brightness, freshness, and a clean cooling effect to a composition, while at higher levels its intense minty and icy character quickly becomes dominant.

Thanks to its characteristic odor and cooling effect, L-Menthol is commonly used in fragrances, oral care products, shampoos, shower gels, soaps, body care products, and other cooling applications. It is especially useful when creating a distinctly fresh, icy, and invigorating sensory profile.
