Kohinool brings a modern woody–amber profile-dry, airy, and transparent-with a soft floral facet, hints of vetiver, and a subtle “raisin-like” nuance. It diffuses well, adding warm yet clean lift that opens up a composition while keeping the base smooth.

In formulas, Kohinool is versatile across top, heart, and base, with strong paper blotter longevity around 24 hours. It suits fine fragrance, soap, shampoo, and deodorant formats. Within woody–amber frameworks, it acts as a backbone that strengthens dry woods, sharpens amber facets, and reins in excessive sweetness. Typical usage levels can reach up to ~35% depending on purpose and medium.

Kohinool pairs especially well with modern woody–amber materials such as Iso E Super, Ambroxan, and Norlimbanol to build dry depth. In vetiver–cedar structures, it delivers an “open air” cleanliness and clarity. Thanks to its high diffusion and clean-dry character, Kohinool both reinforces the woody foundation and bridges bright top notes with warm bases.

Also referred to as “amber carbinol,” Kohinool is primarily 3,4,5,6,6-pentamethylheptan-2-ol. Trade literature commonly describes it as a dry woody–amber with floral and vetiver aspects, aligning with the sensory character outlined above.
