Hexyl Salicylate (CAS 6259-76-3) is a key member of the salicylate family, widely used in perfumery thanks to its soft odor profile, easy blending behavior, and excellent substantivity. It is a low-volatility aromatic liquid that acts both as an odorant and as a “cushioning” material, helping to prolong and smooth floral and fruity notes in a composition.

Olfactively, Hexyl Salicylate offers a gentle floral character with a slightly powdery tone and a subtle green–herbal nuance, wrapped in a light fruity sweetness. It evokes soft white flowers, jasmine and orange blossom on a warm, clean background. With its dual floral and slightly green facets, Hexyl Salicylate rounds out floral accords, softens the sharp edges of citrus notes, and brings a natural, nuanced depth to the overall fragrance.

In fine fragrance creation, Hexyl Salicylate is often used in jasmine, orange blossom, muguet and white floral bouquets, as well as in modern fruity accords. Its good tenacity and moderate diffusion make it particularly valuable in the heart and base of a formula, adding smoothness, reducing harsh alcoholic edges, and improving long-lastingness on skin, fabric and other porous surfaces.

From a technical standpoint, Hexyl Salicylate dissolves well in perfumer’s alcohol, oils, fragrance concentrates and most solvent systems used in cosmetics and home care. Its excellent stability in the presence of soaps and surfactants makes it especially suitable for bar soap, shower gels, shampoos, detergents, fabric softeners and household cleaners, as well as for scented candles and other home fragrance products. In bases that must perform under warm, humid or wash-off conditions, Hexyl Salicylate is a highly appreciated choice.

Hexyl Salicylate is suitable for both professional perfumers and product developers looking for a versatile ingredient: it extends floral–fruity territory, functions as a supportive fixative, and is practical in real-life applications. When skillfully combined with other salicylates and floral building blocks, it helps create well-balanced, pleasant, and deep fragrances, performing equally well in fine fragrance, personal care and everyday home care products.
