Heliotropex N Heliotrope Fragrance Base alt. Heliotropin Piperonal

Heliotropex N (manufactured by IFF) is a premium synthetic fragrance mixture designed to be the perfect replacement for Heliotropine (or piperonal) in the perfumery industry. Unlike pure Heliotropine, which is typically a solid crystal (prone to clumping) and strictly controlled due to regulations concerning illicit drug precursors, Heliotropex N is a pale yellow to pale orange liquid. This improvement not only relieves compounders from legal burdens but also makes weighing and dosing in automated production much easier and more convenient.
Olfactorily, Heliotropex N delivers a rich, mysterious, and exotic floral experience. It excellently recreates the signature sweet, powdery scent of the heliotrope flower, while radiating warm nuances of almond, cherry, vanilla, along with spicy and balsamic notes. A unique feature of this replacer is that, thanks to the inclusion of components like anisaldehyde, it possesses a much brighter and more sparkling top note compared to pure Heliotropine, which can sometimes feel heavy and flat. Its substantivity is also highly impressive, capable of lasting up to 400 hours on a smelling strip.
One of the most significant technical advantages of Heliotropex N is its high stability and non-discoloring properties. Pure Heliotropine easily causes yellowing or browning when reacting with alkaline environments in soaps or whitening creams. In contrast, Heliotropex N completely overcomes this drawback, making it a top choice for premium personal care products and cosmetics that demand aesthetic consistency. In perfumery, this product dissolves well in alcohol and DPG solvents, serving as an excellent foundation to add roundness to floral accords (such as lilac, mimosa, and cherry blossom), as well as Oriental and Gourmand fragrance families.
Although highly safe and versatile in perfumery, Heliotropex N is strictly prohibited for use in food, flavorings, e-cigarettes, lip products, or oral care products. According to the standards of the International Fragrance Association (IFRA - 51st Amendment), this material has safe usage limits, for example, a maximum of 26.4% in fine fragrances, 7.1% in body lotions, and 5.0% in bar soaps. Users should note to store the mixture in a dark, dry, and tightly closed container, and it is recommended to wear protective gear such as gloves when handling the raw material, as it may cause allergic skin sensitization upon direct contact.
