Applications
trans-3-Hexen-1-ol (E-3-Hexen-1-ol), or leaf alcohol, carries a vivid fresh-cut grass scent that makes it indispensable in perfumery, air-care sprays, candles, detergents, shampoos and skincare, while flavor technologists rely on it to deliver crisp green notes to soft drinks, non-alcoholic beers, ready-to-drink teas, chewing gums, ice creams, cookies, salad dressings, instant seasonings and plant-based meat; it is also converted into fruity esters such as banana, pear and cucumber, used as a preservative co-adjuvant for produce, an ingredient in insect pheromone lures and natural mosquito repellents, a specialty solvent, a probe in olfactory neuroscience, an aroma-therapy agent for stress relief, and a versatile intermediate in fine-chemical synthesis.
