  • Applications

Tagetone, (Z)- (CAS 3588-18-9) is a natural monoterpenic enone abundant in Tagetes (marigold) essential oil, used primarily as a fragrance and flavor ingredient imparting fresh green, fruity, herbaceous, marigold-like nuances in fine fragrances, candles, home and fabric care, and selected food flavor formulations at trace levels; it is also employed as a GC/GC‑MS reference standard for Tagetes oil authentication and raw‑material QC, as a starting material/building block in organic synthesis of terpene derivatives (e.g., reductions, Michael additions, epoxidations), and as a research target for bioactivities such as antimicrobial, insecticidal/repellent, and nematicidal effects supporting exploration of botanical crop‑protection uses; because unsaturated enones are sensitive to light/oxygen and may pose skin-sensitization risk, store under inert gas away from light and follow IFRA and local safety/use‑level guidelines.
