Applications
6-Methyl-5-hepten-2-ol (MHO, CAS 1569-60-4) is a secondary alcohol with a characteristic green-fruity note that is widely used as a flavour and fragrance ingredient in foods, beverages, cosmetics and personal-care products, serves as a key industrial precursor for tocopherol (vitamin E), an intermediate for fruity esters, tobacco flavour enhancers and citrus-type terpene aromas, an additive imparting freshness to premium detergents, as well as the insect pheromone sulcatol employed in eco-friendly traps and behavioural research, while its isoprenyl skeleton also makes it a versatile building block in advanced organic synthesis.
