  • Applications

(R)-(+)-Pulegone (CAS 89-82-7) is a naturally occurring monoterpene ketone with a characteristic mint aroma that is widely used in the flavour and fragrance industry to impart genuine peppermint notes to confectionery, beverages and mouthwashes; in cosmetics and personal-care products for cooling and deodorising effects; in pharmaceuticals as an intermediate for the semi-synthesis of menthol, isomenthone, and as a smooth-muscle relaxant or digestive aid; it is also under study as an eco-friendly insecticide and mosquito repellent for organic agriculture, an antifungal additive for grain storage, and an antimicrobial component of biodegradable packaging; furthermore, it serves as a valuable chiral building block in asymmetric organic synthesis for the construction of complex bioactive terpenoid scaffolds.
