Applications
p-MENTHAN-8-OL (CAS 498-81-7) is a monoterpenoid alcohol with a fresh herbal–woody scent, used broadly as a fragrance ingredient in fine fragrances, cosmetics, shampoos/soaps, detergents, and air‑care/deodorizing products to build, round, fix, and mask notes; as a low‑level flavoring in foods and beverages with minty, citrus‑herbal nuances; as a solvent/co‑solvent and solubilizer for essential oils and hydrophobic actives in home and personal care formulations; as a synthetic intermediate to menthyl esters/acetates and other terpene derivatives for perfumery; studied for antimicrobial activity, insect‑repellent effects, and skin‑penetration enhancement, thus included in some air sprays, surface‑hygiene, and topical preparations; and as a scent carrier for scented materials such as candles and fragrance‑releasing polymers.
