Applications
o-Cresol (CAS 95-48-7) is a versatile aromatic compound primarily used as an intermediate for producing pesticides, disinfectants, novolac resins, lubricant antioxidants, plasticizers, dyes, fragrances, rubber additives, pharmaceuticals and luminescent materials; it is also employed in the synthesis of flame-retardant phosphate esters, fenpropimorph, mecoprop, OLED emitters, photographic developers, CO₂-scrubbing agents for microelectronics, specialty solvents for printed-circuit fabrication, synthetic-fiber modifiers, binders in alkaline batteries, and broad-spectrum antiseptic cleaning formulations.
