Humulene diepoxide (CAS 74282-08-9) is the diepoxide derivative of the sesquiterpene humulene with two highly reactive epoxide rings; in practice it serves as a bifunctional epoxide reagent for selective ring-opening to build diols, amino alcohols, and multifunctional scaffolds in organic synthesis and drug discovery; as an analytical reference standard for GC-MS, LC-MS, and NMR when identifying and quantifying humulene oxidation products in hop essential oil, terpene-rich botanicals, and food matrices; as a model compound in atmospheric chemistry to probe secondary organic aerosol formation from sesquiterpenes; and it has been explored as a bio-based epoxy monomer for flexible crosslinked networks at laboratory scale, as well as a substrate to evaluate catalyst/enzyme selectivity in epoxide ring-opening; note that it is a research chemical, not a therapeutic agent, and any reported biological activities (e.g., anti-inflammatory or cytotoxic effects) are mostly in vitro/preclinical and require further validation for safety and efficacy.
