Applications
Grandlure IV (CAS 26532-25-2) is a component of the boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) aggregation pheromone, applied primarily as an attractant in traps for surveillance and integrated pest management in cotton, enabling early detection, population estimation, incursion mapping, intervention timing, and eradication assessment; it is commonly co-formulated with the other Grandlure components in controlled-release lures to enhance attractiveness and longevity, supporting area-wide eradication programs, quarantine and border biosecurity monitoring, thereby reducing the need for broad-spectrum insecticides and production costs; additionally, Grandlure IV serves as an analytical reference and behavioral stimulus in chemical ecology research to optimize formulations, release rates, and trap designs, and in field trials that compare monitoring strategies, model risk, and evaluate the environmental impacts of pheromone-based control options.
