  • Applications

Geranyllinalool (CAS 1113-21-9) is a diterpene alcohol used primarily as a fragrance ingredient and synthetic intermediate: it imparts green-floral, light fruity and slightly woody facets that enhance naturalness, diffusion and longevity in fine fragrances, body sprays, personal-care products (creams, shampoos, body washes) as well as home-care detergents, fabric softeners and candles/air care; in flavors, at very low levels it helps reconstruct tea, floral and citrus notes in beverages, confectionery and baked goods; in aroma chemistry it serves as a building block for derivatives such as esters, oxides or slow-release pro-fragrances and is employed in microencapsulation/encapsulation systems to improve fabric substantivity; in agriculture and chemical ecology, geranyllinalool is a plant-derived volatile studied as a semiochemical that can influence insect behavior, and is therefore being explored for lures/attractants of beneficial insects or as a component in bio-based crop-protection formulations; additionally, multiple in vitro studies report antimicrobial, antioxidant and insect-repellent activities, motivating evaluation for natural preservation and eco-friendly pest management (subject to regulatory and safety assessments); it is also favored in “natural/nature-identical” formulations due to its occurrence in many essential oils, and should be stored tightly sealed, protected from light/oxygen to minimize oxidation of its conjugated double bonds.
