Applications
Ethyl vanillin (CAS 121-32-4) is a powerful synthetic flavoring agent roughly three to four times stronger than natural vanillin, which explains its extensive use in food products such as chocolate, confectionery, baked goods, ice cream, breakfast cereals, beverages, condiments and many non-dairy formulations, where its heat and pH stability preserve the rich vanilla nuance during baking, pasteurization and extrusion; in pharmaceuticals, ethyl vanillin is added to cough syrups, chewable tablets and vitamin powders to mask unpleasant drug tastes; in the fragrance and cosmetic industry the molecule supplies a warm, sweet and persistent note in oriental perfumes, scented candles, soaps, shower gels, lipsticks, deodorants and e-cigarette liquids, helping to bridge woody, amber and caramel accords; additionally, ethyl vanillin functions as a chromatographic reference standard, an intermediate in drug synthesis, a palatability enhancer for premium animal feed and a scent-stabilizing additive in polymer packaging, thanks to its high purity, good solubility in ethanol, propylene glycol and oily carriers, and its GRAS safety status recognized by the FDA.
