Applications
Dodec-11-en-1-al (CAS 51148-68-6) is a long-chain aldehyde with a terminal double bond used mainly in perfumery, pheromone-based pest management, and as a versatile synthetic intermediate; in fragrances it imparts aldehydic, fatty, waxy, slightly citrus-green top notes to fine fragrances, soaps, and detergents at very low levels consistent with IFRA guidance; in crop protection, the E/Z isomers of 11-dodecenal are key sex-pheromone components of numerous moth species, enabling eco-friendly monitoring and mating-disruption lures; owing to its aldehyde and alkene functionalities, it is a useful building block for downstream transformations (reduction, epoxidation, conjugate/ene additions, oxidation) to access alcohols, acids, amides, surfactants, and specialty polymer monomers/modifiers, and it also serves as an analytical reference and in mechanistic studies of alkenal reactivity.
