    D-Dihydrocarvone, mixture of isomers (CAS 7764-50-3), is widely employed as a mint-herbal flavour component in confectionery, chewing gums, mouthwashes, essential-oil blends and cosmetics; as an intermediate in the semisynthesis of natural menthol, carvyl acetate, carvacrol, linalool and dihydrocarveol; as a chiral pool molecule supplying an aromatic carbon framework and a stereogenic center for asymmetric synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals such as antifungals, muscle relaxants, analgesics and pyrethroid derivatives; in catalytic research where it is incorporated into homogeneous catalysts or immobilised on polymer supports for recyclable heterogeneous epoxidation, Baeyer-Villiger and Michael reactions; as a precursor to environmentally benign aroma surfactants, deodorants and food preservatives; in the manufacture of coatings, printing inks and biopolymers owing to its biocompatibility, ready biodegradability and pleasant odour; and as a chiroptical probe in chromatographic and spectroscopic analysis to discriminate R/S configurations of other terpenes.
