Applications
Cyclodecane (CAS 293‑96‑9) is a nonpolar C10 cyclic hydrocarbon used mainly in R&D: as a model substrate to probe oxidation, cracking, and isomerization of naphthenes in petrochemistry and fuel science (a surrogate naphthenic component in jet/diesel fuel mechanisms), to assess activity/selectivity of metal and zeolite catalysts; for conformational analysis, ring strain, and transannular interaction studies by NMR, thermodynamics, and computation; as a reference/calibration compound in GC for saturated cyclic hydrocarbons; as a specialty nonpolar medium and a guest molecule to test adsorption/encapsulation in porous materials (MOFs, zeolites); and as a starting point for functionalization (e.g., oxidation/halogenation) to cyclodecanol, cyclodecanone, and other intermediates for fine‑chemical synthesis.
