Applications
cis-Isoeugenol (CAS 5912-86-7) is used as a fragrance ingredient delivering clove–carnation, sweet and soft vanillic nuances in fine fragrances, personal-care products, soaps–detergents and air-care formats (candles, fresheners), and as a trace flavoring for confectionery, baked goods, spice blends and beverages (subject to regulatory limits); in synthesis it serves as a key intermediate to vanillin/ethyl vanillin and related esters (e.g., isoeugenyl acetate), a versatile building block for aroma chemicals and pharma/agro leads, and an analytical reference standard for monitoring fragrance allergens in cosmetics; in R&D its phenolic–allylic scaffold is leveraged as a model natural antioxidant/antimicrobial and in flavor/fragrance delivery studies (microencapsulation, stabilization, controlled release) to fine-tune accords, with the cis isomer giving a sweeter, more floral tone than the sharper clove-like trans isomer; note it is a skin sensitizer under IFRA/EU restrictions, typically used at low levels and stored under inert, cool, light-protected conditions with antioxidants to minimize oxidation.
