Applications
Butyl (2E)-2-methylbut-2-enoate (CAS 7785-66-2), also known as butyl tiglate, is a fruity, apple/pear, slightly winey odorant used as a fragrance ingredient in fine fragrances, cosmetics, soaps, detergents and air care, and at very low dosage as a flavoring in beverages, confectionery and baked goods; in chemical practice it serves as a versatile intermediate (hydrolysis back to tiglic acid, transesterification, and double-bond transformations such as epoxidation or hydroboration), as an analytical reference or internal standard for GC/olfactometry and quality control, and it is occasionally included in insect pheromone lures or bait-odor blends in research; selection is driven by its moderate volatility, good stability and broad miscibility with common organic solvents.
