Applications
(+)-beta-Costol (CAS 515-20-8) is a natural sesquiterpene alcohol from costus root oil used mainly in fragrance R&D to impart woody–warm–balsamic nuances and reinforce oriental/chypre/tobacco accords at trace levels; as an analytical reference for GC-MS/chiral GC to build spectral libraries and authenticate costus-derived botanicals/oils; for structure–odor relationship studies and enantiomer resolution; and as a scaffold/intermediate to semi-synthesize sesquiterpene derivatives in natural product chemistry, while any commercial use in foods and cosmetics is subject to strict safety and regulatory constraints (e.g., IFRA/local rules) and it has no approved therapeutic indications.
