Applications
Bergamotene (CAS 6895-56-3) is a sesquiterpene hydrocarbon with citrusy–woody, slightly spicy facets, used as a fragrance ingredient in fine fragrances, personal care, soaps, detergents, and home-care to add depth and extend longevity; in foods and beverages it can serve at very low levels as a supporting note in bergamot, citrus, peppery, and herbal profiles; in research and agriculture it is leveraged as a plant semiochemical to attract beneficial insects or modulate pest behavior in integrated pest management, and as a GC-MS reference/marker for identification, quality control, and authenticity of essential oils; in aroma chemistry it serves as a building block to prepare terpene derivatives (e.g., epoxides, alcohols, or hydrogenated products) to tailor odor and formulation stability, and it appears in candles, diffusers, and other air-care products, with formulation and storage practices aimed at minimizing oxidation to preserve the intended aroma.
