Applications
Ar-Curcumene (CAS 4176-06-1) is an aromatic sesquiterpene found in turmeric, ginger and related Zingiberaceae essential oils; in industry it is used to impart warm, spicy, woody notes to perfumes, deodorants, personal care products and spice-flavored foods (e.g., curry blends, soups, savory snacks), and it serves as a GC-MS reference standard/biomarker for testing, standardization and traceability of essential oils, authenticity assessment of botanicals, and chemotaxonomic or metabolomic studies; application-oriented research also investigates Ar-Curcumene for potential bioactivities (antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, insect-repellent) to support development of plant-derived preservatives, postharvest treatments and eco-friendly pest management, and as a molecular scaffold for sesquiterpene derivatization, although these bioactive uses remain largely in vitro/preclinical and require further validation for safety, efficacy and regulatory compliance.
