Applications
Alpha-curcumene (CAS 644-30-4) is an aromatic sesquiterpene found in turmeric and other Zingiberaceae essential oils, used as a flavor and fragrance ingredient/modifier in perfumes, personal care and foods; as a GC–MS reference/standard for essential-oil quality control, botanical traceability and herbal standardization; investigated in vitro for antimicrobial, antioxidant and insect-repellent activities, suggesting potential roles in natural food-preservation concepts and biobased pest management; and employed as a terpene scaffold in structure–activity optimization, derivative screening and biochemical/pharmacology research; in applied formulations it is often microencapsulated or combined with carriers/co-solvents to enhance stability, solubility and volatility control, with safety assessed according to the intended use.
