Applications
Alpha-cedrene epoxide (CAS 13567-39-0) is a sesquiterpene epoxide derived from cedarwood oil, used primarily as a fragrance ingredient and tonal modifier in fine fragrances, cosmetics, and home-care products for its dry woody cedar, slightly resinous character and good tenacity; it also serves as a valuable organic intermediate since the epoxide ring readily undergoes ring-opening to give diols, halohydrins, amino alcohols, and cedryl/cedrenyl derivatives used to develop new odorants, heat-stable aroma materials, and chiral building blocks for research; additionally, it is employed as a GC-MS reference standard to authenticate/standardize cedarwood oil and to track α-cedrene oxidation products, and in microencapsulation and controlled-release systems to stabilize and extend woody notes in candles, detergents, and deodorizing formulations.
