Applications
9-Decenal (CAS 39770-05-3) is a linear aldehyde with a terminal double bond widely used in flavors and fragrances for green–citrus–fatty facets, enhancing and fixing notes in fine fragrances, soaps, detergents, air care, personal-care bases, and low-dosage citrus/green food flavors; it also serves as a versatile synthetic intermediate: the aldehyde can be selectively reduced to 9-decen-1-ol or oxidized to 9-decenoic acid, while the C=C enables epoxidation, thiol–ene click, and cross-metathesis to install functions, enabling the construction of surfactants, specialty plasticizers/lubricants, functionalized oligomers/polymers, and UV-curable systems; it is employed in R&D for flavor/fragance creation, pharma/agro leads, analytical reference standards, and studies of lipid-oxidation volatiles; when sourced from oleochemicals, it supports bio-based materials value chains.
