  • Applications

2-Undecanone (CAS 53452-70-3) is a straight-chain ketone occurring naturally in wild tomato and certain essential oils; in industrial and agricultural use it is widely applied as an insect and tick repellent and as a biopesticide/contact acaricide, formulated into sprays, lotions, wipes or treated textiles; in veterinary and vector-control settings it helps protect pets and humans from biting arthropods; in fragrance and cosmetics it imparts a green, herbaceous–fruity, slightly citrus note for perfumes, household cleaners, soaps and personal care products; in foods, at trace levels, it serves as a flavoring/seasoning for fruity, dairy and baked profiles; in organic synthesis it functions as a solvent or intermediate to access C11 alcohols, oximes, ketals and other functional derivatives; additionally, 2-undecanone is explored for postharvest pest control, push–pull strategies in integrated pest management, and microencapsulation for controlled release, benefiting from its pleasant odor, natural origin, and favorable biodegradability.
