Applications
2-Methoxynaphthalene (C11H10O, CAS 93-04-9), also known as β-naphthyl methyl ether or nerolin, is a sweet-smelling aromatic compound used widely in perfumery, flavour and cosmetic industries as a fragrance fixative and warm note in soaps, shampoos, shaving creams and candles; in food technology it is allowed at trace levels to impart orange, berry and chocolate nuances; in the chemical sector it serves as an intermediate for synthesizing azo dyes, fluorescent brighteners, corrosion inhibitors, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, and as a reference standard for chromatographic or spectroscopic analysis; it is also investigated as a specialty solvent for photochemical reactions and as a building block for OLED luminescent materials.
