Applications
Methyl β-naphthyl ketone (CAS 93-08-3), also known as 1-acetylnaphthalene, is a fragrant aromatic compound widely employed as a synthetic precursor in the flavor and fragrance industry to create musky and woody notes, as an intermediate in the manufacture of azo and anthraquinone dyes, as a starter for anti-inflammatory and antifungal drug synthesis, and as a building block for UV stabilizers in polymers; additionally, in academic research it is used as a chromatographic reference standard, a model substrate for Friedel-Crafts acylation studies, and a fluorescent tag when coupled to polyaromatic systems to probe electron-transfer mechanisms and emission spectra of organic luminescent materials.
