Applications
1,4-Cineole (CAS 470-67-7) is an oxygenated monoterpene with a fresh camphor-like aroma that is widely employed as a fragrance ingredient in perfumes, soaps, detergents and air fresheners; as a flavour enhancer in foods, beverages and chewing gum; as a bio-solvent for essential-oil extraction; as an active pharmaceutical agent in expectorant, respiratory antiseptic and topical analgesic formulations; and it is also being studied as a natural crop-protection compound and a green solvent in organic synthesis.
