    Piperitone (CAS 89-81-6) là một xeton monoterpen tự nhiên hiện diện trong nhiều tinh dầu (ví dụ Eucalyptus, Mentha, Cymbopogon) và được ứng dụng rộng rãi: làm chất tạo hương trong thực phẩm, đồ uống và sản phẩm chăm sóc răng miệng nhờ mùi bạc hà, cay ấm và hơi long não; làm nguyên liệu mùi trong nước hoa, xà phòng, chất tẩy rửa và chất khử mùi; làm nguyên liệu trung gian công nghiệp để tổng hợp menthol, thymol và các dẫn xuất p-menthane khác cho ngành hương liệu, dược - nông hóa; đồng thời được nghiên cứu như tác nhân kháng vi sinh, xua đuổi/diệt côn trùng có nguồn gốc thực vật (ứng dụng bảo quản nông sản, kiểm soát muỗi) và đôi khi là chất tăng thấm da tiềm năng trong công thức bôi ngoài; ngoài ra còn dùng làm chất chuẩn/đánh dấu trong GC-MS để kiểm soát chất lượng và truy xuất nguồn gốc tinh dầu, với liều dùng thường thấp do mùi mạnh và tính dễ bay hơi.
