    Axit palmitic (Palmitic acid, CAS 57-10-3) là một acid béo bão hòa chuỗi C16 được ứng dụng rộng rãi như nguyên liệu đa năng: trong công nghiệp thực phẩm, nó được este hóa thành chất nhũ hóa, chất tạo hương và chống tạo bọt, đồng thời bổ sung vào thực phẩm chức năng để tăng mật độ năng lượng; trong mỹ phẩm và chăm sóc cá nhân, dạng acid tự do, muối, este hoặc amid của nó góp phần chế tạo xà phòng, kem dưỡng, son môi, chất hoạt động bề mặt, mang lại khả năng làm mềm, tăng độ nhớt và ổn định hệ nhũ; trong dược phẩm, axit palmitic đóng vai trò tá dược, chất bao viên và vật liệu vi cầu kiểm soát giải phóng; trong hóa chất công nghiệp, nó được khử thành rượu béo C16 hoặc palmitat dùng làm chất bôi trơn, chất chống rỉ, chất dẻo hóa, phụ gia cao su, chất tháo khuôn, nến cao cấp, đồng thời hiện diện trong dung dịch gia công kim loại, hoàn tất dệt nhuộm, sơn phủ bề mặt và làm nguyên liệu sản xuất biodiesel.
