    Menthofuran (CAS 494-90-6) là một monoterpen chứa vòng furan hiện diện tự nhiên với hàm lượng vết trong các loại bạc hà và đặc biệt liên quan đến tinh dầu cỏ húng chanh (pennyroyal); trong thực tiễn, nó được dùng chủ yếu như chất chuẩn phân tích để định lượng/giám sát pulegone–menthofuran trong tinh dầu, thực phẩm, thực phẩm bổ sung và dược liệu bạc hà bằng GC-MS/LC-MS nhằm kiểm soát chất lượng và phát hiện pha tạp; là đầu mút/thang chuẩn để đánh giá hồ sơ hương bạc hà trong nghiên cứu hương liệu và tái cấu trúc mùi trong hệ mô hình, dù việc đưa trực tiếp vào công thức thực phẩm–mỹ phẩm bị hạn chế nghiêm ngặt do độc tính gan; đóng vai trò chất dò trong độc chất học và dược động học để khảo sát cơ chế hoạt hóa sinh học qua cytochrome P450, bắt giữ chất chuyển hóa phản ứng bằng glutathione, lập bản đồ adduct protein, ức chế phụ thuộc thời gian các P450 và tạo mô hình tổn thương gan in vitro/in vivo; phục vụ điều tra độc chất học–pháp y như dấu ấn phơi nhiễm với pennyroyal; đồng thời là khối xây dựng/tiền chất bất đối xứng trong tổng hợp hữu cơ các dẫn xuất terpen, menthane oxy hóa và phân tử trị liệu thử nghiệm, với yêu cầu quản lý an toàn nghiêm ngặt khi thao tác và thải bỏ.
