    Isocaryophyllene (CAS 118-65-0) là một sesquiterpene hydrocacbon có mặt trong tinh dầu hạt tiêu, đinh hương và nhiều dược liệu; trong công nghiệp, nó chủ yếu được dùng làm thành phần hương liệu mang sắc thái gỗ–ấm–hơi cay cho nước hoa, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân, xà phòng, chất tẩy rửa, sản phẩm khử mùi và nến; trong thực phẩm và đồ uống, nó có thể góp vai trò điều biến mùi vị kiểu gia vị–nhựa thơm ở liều vi lượng khi được quy định cho phép; trong hóa học ứng dụng, nó là nguyên liệu đầu để oxy hóa/epoxy hóa (ví dụ tạo caryophyllene oxide), hydro hóa hoặc chức hóa nhằm tổng hợp hóa chất mùi, monomer/oligomer terpene, nhựa “xanh” và chất trung gian tổng hợp; trong phân tích, nó làm chất chuẩn/marker để định hình hồ sơ hương của tinh dầu, tiêu, hoa bia, cần sa và có thể dùng làm chuẩn tham chiếu trong GC‑MS; trong nông hóa–gia dụng, nó được nghiên cứu như chất xua đuổi côn trùng/kháng vi sinh; trong R&D dược–mỹ phẩm, nó được khảo sát về hoạt tính sinh học (chống oxy hóa, kháng viêm, kháng khuẩn) nhưng không thay thế đánh giá an toàn và tuân thủ quy định; về công nghệ, do kỵ nước và dễ oxy hóa, nên dùng dung môi/chất solubilizer phù hợp, vi bao hoặc hệ mang lipid để tăng ổn định và kiểm soát giải phóng, bảo quản kín tránh sáng, oxy và nhiệt, có thể bổ sung chất chống oxy hóa; luôn tuân thủ IFRA, giới hạn phơi nhiễm và luật thực phẩm tại thị trường mục tiêu.
