  • Applications

Zirconium dioxide, or zirconia, CAS 1314-23-4, is used in advanced ceramics for wear-resistant components in industrial manufacturing, including cutting tools and seals, where high hardness and temperature stability are valuable. It serves in thermal barrier coatings for high-temperature engines and turbines due to its low thermal conductivity and phase stability. Stabilized or partially stabilized zirconia acts as a catalyst support and as an electrolyte material in solid oxide fuel cells and in oxygen-sensing devices, supporting energy generation and process control. It is also used in refractories and crucibles for high-temperature metallurgical processing, offering corrosion resistance and heat resistance. In dentistry, zirconia ceramics are used for crowns and implants, providing an esthetic and durable ceramic option.
