Applications
Zinc bromide (CAS 7699-45-8) is used primarily as a Lewis acid catalyst in organic synthesis (e.g., promoting acylation and halogenation-type reactions). It also serves as a bromide source for certain organobromine syntheses and as a component in electrolytes for zinc-bromine redox-flow batteries used in energy storage. As a dense brine salt, it is employed in oilfield drilling and completion fluids to provide high density and stabilize wellbore operations. Additionally, ZnBr2 is a precursor for various inorganic and polymer-related chemical processes and formulations, subject to local regulations and formulation limits.
