Applications
Zinc (CAS 7440-66-6) is widely used for corrosion protection of steel by galvanizing in construction and automotive industries; in alloys, zinc is used in brass and other zinc-containing alloys for die casting and precision parts; zinc oxide (ZnO) is a white pigment and UV absorber used in plastics, rubber, ceramics, and coatings, and is also common in personal care products; ZnO is also used in electronics in components such as zinc oxide varistors for surge protection; metallic zinc and zinc compounds are used as sources and anodes in batteries, including alkaline and zinc-air cells; and zinc is an essential micronutrient fertilizer in agriculture.
