Applications
(Z,E)-Farnesyl butyrate (CAS 76444-28-5) is used mainly as a fragrance ingredient in fine fragrances, cosmetics, and household products, imparting white-floral/jasmine, ripe-fruity and green-woody facets with fixative and longevity effects; at trace levels it can function as a flavor/fragrance modulator; in R&D and analytics it serves as a GC-MS reference for farnesyl derivatives and for studying stability and controlled release from delivery systems; furthermore, due to stereochemical specificity the (Z,E) isomer appears in certain semiochemical blends for insect attraction and monitoring (species- and formulation-dependent), and is employed as a synthetic intermediate and reference material in terpenoid and farnesyl ester research.
