Applications
(Z)-Tagetenone (CAS 33746-71-3) is a natural monoterpene ketone characteristic of Tagetes (marigold) essential oil, delivering fresh green, herbaceous, fruity, marigold–citrus facets; it is applied in perfumery to build leafy, marigold, tea, citrus, and tomato-leaf accords and to boost realism in tropical-fruit profiles, and is occasionally dosed at very low levels in flavor creation to fine-tune green and overripe notes of mango, passion fruit, or guava; it is studied as a bioactive component of Tagetes for crop-protection concepts (repellent/inhibitory effects on insects, fungi, and nematodes) and explored for biofumigation; it serves as a marker/reference in GC–MS for authentication and quality control of Tagetes oils and for sensory training; it also functions as a useful substrate in catalysis studies, stereoselective transformations, and terpenoid derivatization; owing to its high odor impact and oxidation sensitivity, it is used at low dosage and stored sealed, cool, and protected from light.
